You’re on vacation and what happens if you need to stock up on supplies or find a particular item?
If you’re from the US, Canada or Europe, your first instinct might be to look for one of the big box stores. The problem is, you’re not sure if there are any Walmart, Target or Costco stores in Jamaica.
In this article, we’ll highlight if there are any of these stores on the island and what alternatives are available.
Does Jamaica Have Walmart, Target or Costco?
No, Jamaica does not have any Walmart, Target, Costco or any of the other big box stores that are found in the United States. However, there are a few large retailers in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios that offer similar products and services.
Here is a list of some of the stores that you can find in Jamaica:
- Pricesmart (https://www.pricesmart.com/site/jm/en) Pricemsart is the best alternative to Costco, Walmart or Target. They offer a wide range of products, including groceries, electronics, home goods and more. Pricesmart currently has locations in Kingston and Portmore.
- Megamart (https://www.instagram.com/megamartjamaica). I would not say that Megamart is a direct alternative to any of the US stores, but they offer a wide range of products, including groceries, home goods, clothing and electronics. Megamart has locations in Montego Bay, Kingston and Portmore.
- CPJ Market (https://cpjmarket.com/) CPJ carries premium food brands, gourmet items, organic produce, meat and seafood. If you are looking for specific items, not found in local supermarkets, CPJ is a good option. Locations include Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Kingston.
- HI-Lo Supermarket (https://hilofoodstoresja.com/) Hi-Lo is a local chain of supermarkets that can be found in most major towns and cities across Jamaica. They offer a wide range of groceries and household items and you can often find some products that you are used to seeing in the US. Hi Lo has locations in Negril, Montego Bay and Kingston.
Check Local Supermarkets
If you are looking for specific groceries or other items, it is always best to check the local supermarkets in your area. The majority of towns and cities will have at least one supermarket where you can find most of the items that you need.
You will often find that the grocery stores in tourist areas tend to carry a wider range of products, including items from the US. You won’t be able to find everything that you’re looking for, but you should be able to find most things.
Although you won’t be able to find Walmart, Target or Costco in Jamaica, there are plenty of other stores that you can check out.
Pricesmart is the best alternative to the US stores and you can find most of what you’re looking for there. If you are staying in Montego Bay, Megamart is also a good option. For specific items, you can check out CPJ or Hi-Lo supermarkets.
You will also be able to find many of the items that you need at the local supermarkets in your area.
