Portland

THE GOOD

Relaxing: Portland is largely untouched by urbanization. Most of the parish is lush green vegetation. The atmosphere is one of utmost bliss. There is no noise and pollution, which makes the parish the perfect place to unwind and get in touch with your inner self.

The Resorts: The hotels in Portland are generally very small and cozy. They are perfectly nestled into the natural environment and are unassuming.

The Blue Lagoon: The Blue Lagoon on its own makes Portland worthy of visiting. It’s a grand estuary which is fed by multiple fresh water springs. With a depth of around 180 feet at its deepest, it’s ideal for diving and snorkeling. It’s also breathtakingly beautiful and picturesque.

Boston Jerk Centre: This spot is an entire mall of eateries that is said to be the undisputed champion of jerk in Jamaica. If you’re a fan of jerk foods, then Boston is a must visit for the gastronomical experience of a lifetime.

THE BAD

Isolated: Portland is off the beaten path which means cell and internet services can be shoddy in some areas. In addition, none of the common international fast food chains have locations in the parish, so you’ll have a hard time finding familiar foods outside of the resorts.

Travel Time: The parish is some distance away from the closest international airport in Kingston. In general, it will take you at least two and a half hours to make your way from the airport to Portland.
